Photos of the week: 2/14-20 (Preview)

    1. We start our photos this week in Taipei, where Shen Yun New York Company kicked off the Taiwan leg of its Asia tour. Principal Dancer Angelia Wang poses to match the super tall skyscraper: Taipei 101. Here, she demonstrates the zǐ jīn guān (紫金冠), or the “gold standard crown.” (Photo by dancer Kexin Li)
    2. Angelia Wang performs the páng tuǐ kòng zhì (旁腿控制), or “controlled side leg.” This shot was taken on the on the side porch of the Taipei National Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall, where the company performed eight shows in five days. (Photo by dancer Kexin Li)
    3. A final shot of Angelia Wang performing the “gold standard crown.” Considered one of the most challenging techniques for female dancers, it requires incredible flexibility, core strength, and balance. (Photo by Kexin Li)
    4. Dancer Helen Li enjoys an afternoon break in the lobby of the Kansas City Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, relaxing while casually performing a páng tuǐ tǎng shēn (旁腿躺身), or “side leg with inclined body.” (Photo by dancer Diana Teng)
